The Plan: Basics
What?
Navigating the Future, is the region's collective vision of the future transportation system of Hampton Roads. With a horizon year of 2034, it is a regional long-range transportation plan that outlines transportation goals, objectives, and policies for meeting our future mobility needs. The plan will promote the development of an integrated intermodal transportation system that facilitates the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of people and goods.
Why?
The purpose of the LRTP is to provide a framework that will guide transportation investments and decisions. This plan will also identify funds for transportation projects in the region.
When?
The 2034 update is due for completion by January 2012. However, efforts to prioritize major projects in the region could accelerate the schedule such that significant progress is made or the LRTP is completed prior to that time.
How?
Navigating the Future 2034 will be developed in collaboration with transportation partners and stakeholders across the region and through ongoing public engagement. Beginning with the visioning process, this update will focus on updating the framework to meet new trends and challenges.
